The Egyptian U-20 National Team bundled out by Senegal in the second leg of their match-up with a 7-6 penalty shootout defeat at the Port Said Stadium. The National U-20 team has bowed out of the race for a place in the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations finals.
Egypt were exempted from the first round of qualifying and advanced straight to facing Senegal in the second round.
Manager Hamada Sidqi’s side came away with a goalless draw in the first leg match-up in Senegal. In the return meeting in Port Said، the two sides were again level with no goals between them and needed a penalty shoot-out to decide who would advance.
The penalty shoot-out itself was dramatic، with the 7th Egyptian penalty being missed by Khalid Bassiouni to make the difference between the two sides.
Senegal will play Congo in the third round of qualifying for the AFCON. The African Nations Youth Cup will be held in Niger during January 2019.
