Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev، who is celebrating his 28th birthday on Sunday، said that his teammates had not given him anything yet but a "positive result" in the upcoming match against Egypt would be a good present.
“The team has not given me anything [for the birthday] yet، but a positive result against Egypt would be enough. We watched Egypt’s previous game. They’re good at pressing and defense، of course، [they are] at a higher level than Saudi Arabia. I hope، we'll win، we hope for a positive result،” Dzagoev told journalists.
The player sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of Russia's 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the opening match of the World Cup on Thursday and will need at least ten days to recover، according to the team doctors.
On Sunday، the national team said that Dzagoev would not travel to St. Petersburg with the rest of the team to face Egypt.
The games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities till July 15. Russia are also set to face Uruguay on June 25 as part of their Group A matches.
