Belgium forward Romelo Lukaku was named the man of the match after his team’s 3-0 win over Panama in their first game of the World Cup in Sochi on Sunday.
After a goalless first half، Dries Mertens scored the opener in the 47th minute، and Lukaku scored twice in the 69th and 75th minutes of the game.
Tournament debutants Panama deservedly made it to half time unscathed، but Belgium's world-class talent showed with a flurry of high-quality goals in the second period.
An eye-catching volley from Dries Mertens ended Panama's resistance two minutes after the restart، and Manchester United striker Lukaku followed with two tidy finishes of his own to make the scoreline more convincing. Belgium take their place at the top of Group G ahead of England's opening game against Tunisia.
Tunisia and England، also drawn in Group G alongside Belgium and Panama، will meet later on Monday in Volgograd.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Thursday and will continue through July 15، with a total of 64 matches set to be played at 12 stadiums across 11 Russian cities.
