Public prosecutor، Chancellor، Nabil Ahmed Sadek ordered on Tuesday temporary detention of the customs chief، Gamal Abdelazim، for 4 days pending investigation into bribery charges.
Gamal Abdel-Azim was detained Monday by the Administrative Control Authority (ACA)، the country's anti-corruption watchdog.
The ACA said Abdel-Azim received bribes to facilitate the smuggling of goods prohibited for importing and without paying required customs duties.
The customs chief was also accused of instructing his workers to prepare false reports to reduce the fines on seized goods.
