Despite a World Cup final being on the horizon، the talk of football this week has been about one man and one man only... Cristiano Ronaldo، Daily Mail reported.

The living legend has sensationally called time on his Real Madrid career after nine trophy-laden seasons in Spain، sealing a £100million move to Juventus and beginning what is sure to be a new era.

As the European media had chance to digest the news after Tuesday's shock announcement، the front pages quickly ranged from tribute to excitement.

Madrid based publication Marca have routinely carried the image of Ronaldo on their sports pages for most of his nine years in Spain، and came out with a stunning homage to the forward's 451 goals for the club.

The front page showed a visual representation of every single one of Ronaldo's goals، with 451 balls each carrying the crest of the club he inflicted misery upon.
Of the 451، ten were placed centrally with the logo of Ronaldo's new club Juve، reflecting the occasions the Portuguese showed his new employers no mercy on the European stage.

'There may not be anyone like you،' read Marca's headline، while AS ran with the words: 'It was beautiful while it lasted.'
Over in Italy however excitement is already building، ahead of what is set to be the biggest incoming to the Serie A division in modern football history.

Ronaldo - the leading goalscorer in the Champions League for the last six consecutive seasons - is seen as the missing piece to help propel Juve to European dominance.

O Jogo have already branded the 33-year-old a 'Serie A Killer' while La Gazetta dello Sport praise the £100m 'deal of the century.'

The shock move materialised quickly after Juve pulled out all the stops to get their man، once receiving encouragement from Spain that a deal could be done.

Ronaldo met Juve's club president Andrea Agnelli on Tuesday afternoon in a hotel in Greece before agreeing a four-year deal worth an estimated £500،000 a week.

In a statement، Madrid admitted that they had granted Ronaldo his wish to leave the club.

It read: 'Today، Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude to a player who has proved to be the best in the world and who has marked one of the brightest times in the history of our club and world football.'

'Beyond the titles won، the trophies collected and the triumphs achieved on the pitch during these nine years، Cristiano Ronaldo has been an example of dedication، work، responsibility، talent and improvement.'
