Egypt’s new school semester is set to start on 22 September، the education minister announced on Saturday. The Higher Council of Universities held its monthly meeting on Saturday under the chairmanship of Dr. Khalid Abdul Ghaffar، Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research، in the presence of Dr. Tarek Shawki، Minister of Education and Technical Education and Dr. Yousuf Rashid Al-Qaim، acting secretary-general of higher council of universities.
Several issues، including ministerial bills and other suggestions، were also discussed.
The board agreed on a ministerial bill for school discipline systems، one that the ministry argues will enable schools to execute their educational، moral، and scientific roles and focus on the use of educational therapy methods instead of using more traditional punishments.
A proposal to enforce “electronic absence”- electronic recordkeeping for student arrivals and attendance - for primary high school students starting during the upcoming semester was also approved.
The “electronic absence” is then set to be applied at other levels of high school education during the 2018-2019 academic years.
The Education Minister said that every student who commits to attending classes and shows disciplined behavior would be awarded with an extra five points to be added to their grades.
