Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi issued on Sunday a presidential decree No 939 of 2018 regarding the appointed of Counselor Hanafy Ali El-Gebali as new chief of the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) starting August 2018.
The decree was published in the Egyptian official Gazette on Sunday. El-Gebaly was born on 14 July 1949 in Cairo.
He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University before earning Master's and Doctorate degrees in law from Ain Shams University.
He was appointed as a deputy to the prosecutor-general in 1978، later joining the State Council and being promoted to deputy judge.
He later joined the SCC، reaching the position of head of the court's commissioners authority.
In 2001، El-Gebaly was elected as a member of the Supreme Constitutional Court.
El-Gebaly has authored a number of studies and research papers in English، Arabic and French on constitutional law، and is widely published in foreign and Arabic magazines and journals.
He was also elected to become a secretary-general for the Union of Arab Constitutional Courts.
