he FBI opened an investigation into whether US President Donald Trump was secretly working on behalf of Russia، according to the New York Times. The inquiry started days after Trump fired the director of the FBI، James Comey، as the Jerusalem Post said.
The report of the inquiry published in the New York Times was based on the testimonies of former US law agents، and others involved in the case.
"The inquiry carried explosive implications. Counterintelligence investigators had to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security،" the New York Times report said.
Trump، chose to respond to the reports on Twitter، beginning his comments by calling the New York Times "failing." Trump also wrote that those who initiated the investigations، mostly former FBI leaders he has fired for "very bad reasons،" did it with "no reason and no proof" as a response to his firing of Comey.
