Egypt imports 45% of yearly needs of wheat: Official

Dr Syed Khalifa، Chief of Agriculturalists and former Head of Guiding in Ministry of Agriculture، said that Egypt has achieved self sufficiency of cane and beet of sugar.
He revealed during an interview with “ Sabahak Masry” program aired today on “mbc Masry” Space Channel، that Egypt produces some 9 million tons of wheat every year.
He added that annual consumption is estimated at 15 million tons.
The government bridges that gap through importing about 45% of local consumption of wheat.
He warned that Egypt produces only 10% of food oil، so she imports more than 90% of her consumption every year.
He affirmed that land farm in Egypt has grown to 15.5 million acres.
