Egypt is set to host the first ministerial meeting of the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) in February thanks to its pioneering role in promoting the initiative and the government’s great efforts to prepare for Egypt’s presidency over the African Union in 2019.
The Africa Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) was officially announced in Paris 2015. The ministerial meeting will be preceded by a meeting at the level of liaison officers of member countries at AREI’s board of directors on Tuesday.
The meeting aims to discuss the mechanisms of effective participation of African countries in the implementation of the AREI initiative، discuss the challenges facing countries in effectively engaging in the implementation of this initiative، and exchange views and experiences to help African countries in drawing up plans for energy sector development.
The meeting will be attended by the energy ministers of Guinea، Kenya، Namibia، Chad and their accompanying delegations as well as host Egypt.
The outcomes of Tuesday’s meeting are expected to be reviewed during the AREI’s meeting، scheduled to be held on the sidelines of coming African Union summit that will be chaired by Egypt in February.
