The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) has begun intensive preparations for its 15th International Book Fair، which will run from March 25 to April 7.
Dr. Mostafa El Feki، Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina، said that this year's book fair will witness the participation of a large number of Egyptian and Arab publishers.
He stressed in a press statement that the book fair’s cultural activity will focus on the new generations of creators، especially in the fields of novel، short story، and poetry.
The book fair will provide many services especially for children، which aims to encourage new generations to read، El Feki added.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina began coordinating for this year's book fair with the Alexandria governorate، Alexandria University، and a number of civil society institutions، topped by L'atelier D'Alexandrie
Last year’s book fair witnessed a high turnout from the public، where the number of book fair’s visitors upped to 400 thousand visitors.
Participating in the Book Fair is open only for Publishers، members of Union Publishers، representatives of states، and public and international institutions، according to Alexandria library official website.
Distributors are not permitted at the Book Fair.
A substantial number of publishing and printing houses from Egypt، the Arab World، and Europe are expected to participate.
About the Alexandria International Book Fair The Alexandria International Book Fair realizes a life-long dream of Alexandrian intellectuals. This dream came true right after the inauguration of the BA in 2002 by setting out an international book fair: the Alexandria International Book Fair، according to Alexandria library official website.
The Book Fair has vigorously succeeded in drawing attention to the city of Alexandria and its intellectual figures.
It has also created a vibrant cultural stir which increases year by year with the growing number of participants، whether publishing houses from all over the world or national celebrities who are keen on being part of the Book Fair’s cultural program. A section selling old and used books (Sour el-Azbakeya) has been added as part of the Fair to cater to young people’s need to find books that are relatively inexpensive. This section has witnessed great success as it receives a large number of visitors، both young and old، seeking rare and out of print books. The Fair invites one country every year as a guest of honor، highlighting its culture، heritage، and its key intellectuals and thinkers.
