About 30 million citizens tested for hepatitis HCV virus: Health Minister

Health Minister، Dr Hala Zayed said that that about 30 million citizens were tested for HIV virus within five month in the second phase of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi initiative of "100 million healthy lives."

The initiative aims at treating patients of C virus and noncommunicable diseases.

Egyptian Prime Minister، Mostafa Madbouli، has announced in a press conference launching the initiative.

Madbouli said that، the Health Ministry will inspect more than 30 million citizens during the second phase.

In November، Health Minister Dr. Hala Zayed said that medical surveys were conducted for more than 10 million citizens within an initiative to eliminate HIV virus in 50 days.

In a press conference، Zayed said that the HIV-infected patients’ average in Egypt is only 4.5%.

In October، over 3 million people have been tested for hepatitis C at healthcare units، Health Ministry hospitals، mobile clinics، and other health facilities nationwide since the launch of the campaign to free Egypt from hepatitis C، Zayed said.

Zayed added that the campaign runs from October 1 to the end of April 2019. Egypt will be free from the blood-borne disease by 2020 or 2021، she added.
