Israeli settlers raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound، on Thursday morning، under armed security by Israeli police forces.
Head of the public relations office at the Islamic Endowment Department، Firas al-Dibs، reported that more than 150 Israeli settlers raided the Al-Aqsa compound within an hour.
Locals said that Israeli settlers continuously raid the compound via the Moroccans Gate، tour the holy site and leave through the Chain Gate.
Israeli right-wing extremist groups، who support the demolishment of the Islamic site in order to build a Jewish temple instead، had called for increasing raids to the compound in order to prevent Palestinian Muslims from control the al-Rahma Gate (Gate of Mercy.)
Additionally، the Jerusalem Islamic Endowment also called upon Palestinians to be at the Al-Aqsa compound.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound، which sits just above the Western Wall plaza، houses both the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque. The third holiest site in Islam، it is also venerated as Judaism's most holy place، as it sits where Jews believe the First and Second Temples once stood.
While Jewish visitation is permitted to the compound، non-Muslim worship at Al-Aqsa is prohibited according to an agreement signed between Israel and the Jordanian government after Israel’s illegal occupation of East Jerusalem in 1967.
