Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities said on Friday it had signed contracts to import 240،000 tons of wheat from Romania and Ukraine.
Egypt will import 180،000 tons of wheat from Romania and 60،000 tons from Ukraine، GASC said in a statement after an international bid on Friday.
The quantities will be delivered from 20 May to 5 June، it added.
It is worth to mention that Dr. Ali Al-Moselhey، Minister of Supply and Internal Trade said that government is working hard during the current period to increase strategic stocks of basic foodstuffs to suffice consuming for up to six months.
He pointed out that these stocks of foodstuffs represent a formidable basis for the national security. They answer needs of the country for basic commodities over months to come.
