A microbus on Tuesday fell in Al-Gizawiya Canal at Badrasheen area in Giza، causing five passengers to drown and injuring four others.

Rescue forces rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies from the water and sent them to nearby hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fall of the microbus was due to driving too fast.

Reckless driving، lax traffic rules and poor road conditions contribute to many crashes in Egypt، where there are series of fatal road and rail accidents every year.

Egypt loses about 12،000 lives due to road traffic crashes every year. It has a road traffic fatality rate of 42 deaths per 100،000 population.

The majority (48%) of those killed are passengers of four-wheelers though pedestrians also constitute a significant proportion (20%) of these fatalities.
