Zamalek coach Christian Gross expressed his great joy to restore the glory days of the Whites after being crowned the African Confederation Cup Champions for the first time on Sunday evening، hailing a "wonderful night" in Alexandria.
The White Knights won their first ever Confederation Cup title with a 5-3 shootout victory over Morocco's RS Berkane after a second-half penalty from Mahmoud Alaa leveled the aggregate score at 1-1.
Swiss boss Gross enjoyed his first title at the helm، with Zamalek also chasing the Premier League and Egypt Cup crowns.
"We are all very happy، of course. I'm happy for my players also for the fans of Zamalek. We had a wonderful night; it's fantastic to play in front of a crowd like this،" he told the post-match news conference، referring to a sell-out crowd at Alexandria's 86،000-seat Borg El-Arab Stadium.
It marks the first continental title for the five-time Champions League winners since they beat Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in the 2003 African Super Cup.
