Huawei is delaying the launch of its foldable 5G Mate X smartphone by three months، the firm's communications chief has announced، as the Daily Mail said.

The postponement is the latest setback for the Shenzhen-based company، which was slapped with U.S. sanctions last month.

The Mate X — which is intended as a competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Fold — is now expected to be released globally in September.
The announcement of the delay came from Vincent Pang، Huawei's head of corporate communications، during the WSJ Tech D.LIVE conference in Hong Kong.

The delay comes as Huawei phones face being cut off from updates of Google's Android operating system in the wake of a US blacklist prohibiting American companies from doing business with the Chinese firm.

Mr Pang denied that the delay was due to the ban، however، and said that Huawei was in the process of running certification tests، with various carriers، that are only expected to be completed in August.

Huawei also anticipates a roll out of its Hongmeng operating system، which is presently in the testing phase، within the next nine months، Mr Pang told Reuters.
