Kia Ceed crossover (2019)
According to The Car Magazine، the fourth model in the Ceed range will be a handsome crossover coupe، which will arrive in the UK market in time for the September 2019 plate change. Kia gave Car of the Year jury members a sneak preview yesterday، as they gathered to test drive this year’s shortlist which includes the Kia Ceed family.

The five-door crossover – referred to as CUV until its model name is revealed this summer – will swiftly be offered as a plug-in hybrid model، as Kia goes all guns blazing to electrify its range. Engineers will plumb in the petrolelectric drivetrain from the Niro PHEV، with a total output of 139bhp and an 8.9kWh battery، set to offer 36 miles of pure electric range. This hybrid system will also go into the Ceed station wagon at the same time، in November، The Car Magazine reported.

The Ceed CUV measures 4.39m، a little longer than the five-door hatch. It sports a unique body design، with the only elements shared with the hatch being the windscreen and the front door frames. Plenty of design details come from the SUV rulebook – skid plates front and rear، black plastic wheelarches and roof bars.

Some distinctive details are visible in the sketch: the rear lamps are LEDs، with a brake light signature wrapping around and down the side like a glowing red filament. There’s an extended rear spoiler and twin split trapezoidal exhausts. The big wheels pictured represent the optional 18-inch rims; the base size is 16. And the bespoke launch colour will be this Quantum Yellow.

If the Proceed is Kia’s take on Mercedes-Benz’s CLA shooting brake، the CUV has another German premium car in its sights، the X2. ‘We believe the next big thing will be SUVs with a more sporty look،’ Kia’s European marketing chief Artur Martins told CAR. ‘It’s a coupe crossover that provides a really good alternative to traditional C-segment cars.

The CUV’s body is jacked up by 40mm compared with the hatch، giving a higher seating position for superior visibility even though the seats are pegged at the same level in both cars. The suspension has softer spring and damper rates compared with the Proceed shooting brake، and more sound insulation. That’s because it’s conceived as a more comfortable، less sporty car، and one that’s easier to get into and out of. While the Proceed comes in plush GT Line and GT trims، the CUV will be launched with more modest، level 2 and 3 trims in Kia parlance، as on the Ceed hatch.

The fourth model line will introduce some upgrades that will spread across the Ceed range. A configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument panel will be optional، while one of those mighty horizontal touchscreens so beloved by the industry will be available in the centre. It measures 10.25-inches across، and will also be connected for seven years to provide traffic updates. Owners will also be able to use an app to preconditon the car، remote lock and send navigation destinations aboard.

The rear bench is split 40:20:40، and the boot accommodates 426 litres of luggage، which is up 46 on the hatch. There’s a two-level boot floor، and you’ll need set it on the upper tier unless you want to be loading over a sizeable lip. One other bit of Ceed spec news: the automated Forward Collision Assist braking has been upgraded to operate at 37mph، rather than just 28mph.
