A new patch of the pardoned prisoners per decree no. 1922019 issued by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi، was released on Thursday on the 37th anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day.
2968 were pardoned and 126 were allowed conditional release (remain under observation for a designated period of time).
Regarding presidential pardons، they are customary to national and religious occasions. According to article 155 of the constitution، the president is allowed to issue pardons only after a final ruling is issued.
Interior Ministry’s prison sector held committees to review prisoners’ files around Egypt to identify who deserves release. Sinai liberation day is a public holiday in Egypt which celebrates the liberation of the land of Sinai from Israeli occupation. the day dates back to 25 April، 1982 when Egypt recovered the land of Sinai.
