NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft captured an incredible new image of the asteroid Bennu last week at a distance of only 0.4 miles، revealing details of the surface of the asteroid with remarkable clarity، Interesting Engineering reported.
High Resolution Picture of Bennu Reveals New Details of Asteroid Surface
On June 13، NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft was less than half a mile away from the asteroid Bennu when it took a picture of the surface، imaging it in rich detail.
From the spacecraft’s vantage point in orbit،" NASA said in a release posted with the image، "half of Bennu is sunlit and half is in shadow. Bennu’s largest boulder can also be seen protruding from the southern hemisphere. The image was taken from a distance of 0.4 miles (690 m) above the asteroid’s surface by NavCam 1، one of three navigation cameras that comprise the spacecraft’s TAGCAMS (the Touch-and-Go Camera System) suite. At this distance، details as small as 1.6 ft (0.5 m) across can be resolved in the center of the image."
