Egypt celebrates Arab summit’s approval of Enany for top UNESCO position

“It is an important new step to support the Egyptian candidate who has now enjoyed Arab and African support” said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid in a post on X on Thursday.

The election will take place during the last quarter of 2025.

Exciting news for Egypt as the 33rd Arab Summit, held in Manama, Bahrain, endorsed Egypt’s candidate Dr. Khaled El-Enany for the director-general position of UNESCO for the term 2025-2029. Egypt eagerly welcomed this endorsement, looking forward to Dr. El-Enany potentially taking on this important role in the field of education, science, and culture.

In April 2023, Egypt put forth the former minister of tourism and antiquities as their nominee for the post.

In a show of unity and confidence, the African Union publicly backed his candidacy in February, followed by the Arab League announcing their support for him in September 2023.
