Egypt Expresses Deep Concern Over Helicopter Accident Involving Iran’s President: Foreign Ministry Sources

State television reported that “an accident happened to the helicopter carrying the president” in the Jolfa region of the western province, while some officials described it as a “hard landing.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern on Sunday regarding reports of the helicopter accident involving Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. Egypt is closely monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

In a statement from the spokesperson of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abu Zeid, Cairo has expressed unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Iran during these challenging times, while also extending well wishes for the safety of President Raisi and his colleagues.

Yesterday, Iran initiated an extensive search and rescue operation in a fog-covered mountain region following the disappearance of President Raisi’s helicopter in what state media labeled as an “accidental” incident.

Raisi was visiting the province where he and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated a dam project on the border between the two countries.

Expressions of concern and offers to help came from abroad, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, and Turkiye. Meanwhile, the European Union said it activated its rapid response mapping service to aid in the search effort.
