Kuwait to Begin Drilling Durra Field Before Resolving Border Issue with Iran, Says Minister

In an interview with SkyNews Arabia, Kuwait’s oil minister Saad Al Barrak announced on Thursday that the country will forge ahead with drilling and production at the Durra gas field, opting not to delay for border demarcation with Iran.

In the past, Al Barrak emphasized that Kuwait and Saudi Arabia hold “exclusive rights” to the Durra gas field in the Gulf. He urged Iran to clarify its claim to the field by establishing its maritime borders beforehand.

Iran had previously asserted its ownership of the field and criticized the agreement signed by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait last year to develop the field as “unlawful”.
