Sisi Extends Condolences to Iranian People Following President Raisi’s Tragic Passing

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Raisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and several other officials crashed in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border on Sunday.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has expressed his deepest sympathy to the Iranian people after the tragic crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, his foreign minister, and several other officials.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media on Monday, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy conveyed President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s sincere condolences and sympathy to the Iranian people. He called upon the Almighty Allah to shower the late Iranian President and all those who have passed on with His infinite mercy, while also granting patience and comfort to their grieving families.

In a recent statement, Fahmy mentioned that El-Sisi has conveyed Egypt’s support to the Iranian leadership and people amidst these challenging circumstances.

All nine individuals on board, including officials, an imam, and crew members, tragically lost their lives, according to Iranian reports.

The bodies were discovered in the early hours of Monday morning after a challenging search operation conducted amidst blizzards and treacherous terrain throughout the night.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei assured the Iranian people on Sunday that the country’s operations will continue with “no disruption.”

Mohammad Mokhber, Iran’s first vice president, is expected to assume the presidency temporarily per the Iranian constitution before presidential elections are held within 50 days to select a permanent successor.

In tandem, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry also extended his condolences to the Iranian government and people over the death of Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

“May Allah bestow his mercy upon the two deceased and their companions and grant their families and the brotherly Iranian people patience and solace,” said Shoukry in a post on X.
