weather dallas turned more active Tuesday as Berkeley Taylor said the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex faced a Level 4 Moderate risk for severe storms. Residents were told to prepare for damaging winds, large hail, and a low tornado threat as a cold front moved toward the region.
Berkeley Taylor said, "The upgrade to a Level 4 Moderate risk does NOT mean that storms are expected to be worse than we've been discussing." She added, "However, it does mean that the threat for very large hail is highlighted a little more."
Dallas-Fort Worth Tuesday Evening
The FOX 4 Weather team said the storm timeline had not changed. More scattered activity was expected Tuesday afternoon and evening as the front approached, with people told to stay weather aware beginning in the early afternoon and again around rush hour for the Metroplex. Afternoon highs were expected to reach the mid-80s before conditions quieted down overnight.
The strongest storms were likely to develop later Tuesday, with damaging winds and very large hail the main concerns. The tornado risk stayed low, but an isolated touchdown could not be ruled out. The National Weather Service also issued a Tornado Watch for Red River County through 7 p.m.
Red River County Watch
A morning disturbance brought showers and storms primarily near the Red River before the afternoon round developed. That sequence left the day split between earlier activity to the north and a broader severe threat for the Metroplex later in the day.
The risk also came after tornado damage in Parker and Wise counties last weekend. Juan Madrid was killed Saturday evening when an EF-2 tornado struck Runaway Bay, and authorities identified two people killed after tornadoes ripped through Parker and Wise counties.
Wednesday Through Friday
The front was expected to shift southward on Wednesday, bringing cloud cover, cooler temperatures, and lingering slight chances for rain. A new disturbance was expected to bring scattered storms on Thursday, followed by more widespread heavy rain on Friday. Conditions were expected to dry out in time for the weekend.
