Furthermore, he expressed his deep appreciation for the role played by Egypt, which, along with Qatar and the United States, is mediating the talks.

On Thursday, the Head of the General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel and the Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh engaged in discussions regarding the current talks aimed at halting the Israeli aggression against the people of Gaza.

During the telephone conversation, Haniyeh informed Kamel that a delegation from Hamas will soon travel to Cairo for additional ceasefire discussions in hopes of reaching an agreement to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza with Israel.

In a recent statement from Hamas, Haniyeh expressed to Kamel the group’s continued support and optimistic attitude towards the current ceasefire proposal.

On Wednesday, Hamas requested Egyptian and Qatari mediators provide clear terms regarding the latest Israeli proposal for a ceasefire, an Egyptian source told the AP.

Early Thursday, the Egyptian TV channel Al-Qahera News reported that “positive progress” had been made in the mediation between Hamas and Israel to reach a ceasefire.

It added that a Hamas delegation would visit Cairo in two days to talk with Egyptian officials involved in mediation efforts.

Israel, whose brutal war on the Gaza Strip has continued for nearly seven months, faces growing international pressure to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza.

Since 7 October, the Israeli army has killed 34,596 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded 77,816 more, most of whom are women and children.
