Shoukry and Erdogan collaborate on plans for Sisi’s imminent trip to Turkey

 

During his visit to Istanbul on Saturday, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry had a productive meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They discussed the much-anticipated upcoming visit of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to Turkey, highlighting the importance of strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations.

As per the ministry’s statement, Shoukry highlighted that this visit plays a crucial role in the lead-up to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s imminent trip to Turkey for the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council between the two nations.

In the meeting, Erdogan and Shoukry discussed various regional and international issues, focusing on the worsening crisis in Gaza and its significant humanitarian impact.

In a recent statement, they emphasized how crucial it is to secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire, as well as to ensure unrestricted access for humanitarian aid. Additionally, they once again underscored the importance of avoiding any military operations in the Palestinian Rafah region.

They also underscored the importance of continued coordination and joint action between Cairo and Ankara to prevent the conflict from spreading in the region.

Shoukry praised Turkey’s humanitarian aid to Palestine, which has been provided in cooperation with Egypt.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation to achieve Palestinian reconciliation, resume the peace process, and ultimately establish a viable Palestinian state living peacefully in the region with its capital in East Jerusalem.

Shoukry and Erdogan emphasized the importance of coordinating their efforts in Libya to implement international resolutions aimed at resolving the crisis.

They also exchanged views on Syria, with Shoukry reaffirming Egypt’s steadfast position on the necessity of reaching a political settlement under Resolution 2254 to ensure Syria’s sovereignty, security, and stability.

Shoukry also discussed Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in Sudan, avoiding the state’s collapse and ensuring coordination with all regional and international initiatives to resolve the crisis.

The situation in the African Horn and the developments regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Somalia were among the issues discussed.

He also emphasized Egypt’s commitment to enhancing trade between the two countries from nearly $7 billion to $15 billion. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of enhancing Turkish investments in Egypt.
