Sisi and Jordan’s Prime Minister issue a warning about the devastating consequences of Israeli actions in Rafah

The meeting, which was also attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, focused on the precarious situation in Gaza and ongoing efforts to secure a comprehensive ceasefire, along with an exchange of captives and detainees.

During a meeting in Cairo on Thursday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Bisher Khasawneh strongly denounced the Israeli army’s assaults on the Palestinian city of Rafah. They emphasized the potential catastrophic humanitarian consequences of these attacks.

During a recent discussion, El-Sisi and Khasawneh pointed out that military operations of this nature could cut off a crucial lifeline for the war-torn Strip. Additionally, they highlighted that these operations could jeopardize the safe passage that is essential for delivering much-needed humanitarian aid and for evacuating injured Palestinians for medical treatment.

In a recent development, Israeli forces took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing on Tuesday. This move has interrupted the flow of aid and the transportation of injured individuals, causing concern for those in need of assistance.

According to Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, these efforts aim to ensure immediate and uninterrupted access to humanitarian assistance for the suffering people of the Strip.

The leaders urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by pushing for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, while simultaneously recognizing an independent and sovereign Palestinian State based on the borders of 4 June, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This recognition, the statement added, “shall bring about justice and achieve regional security and stability, opening up prospects of development for all peoples of the region.”

During the meeting, the Jordanian Premier conveyed appreciation from King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan to the Egyptian President.

For his part, El-Sisi reaffirmed the special and historical ties between both peoples and their leaderships, highlighting the importance that Egypt places on bilateral cooperation for the benefit and aspirations of their people and the region.
