Egypt Commends Peace Deal Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Egypt warmly welcomed the recent agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Tuesday. The deal includes Armenia handing over four villages to Azerbaijan and the mutual demarcation of borders.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially stated that the recent agreement marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to demarcate borders between both countries.

The ministry also praised this significant development, urging both parties to continue taking positive steps to build trust and work towards achieving a peace agreement between the two nations.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed optimism on Tuesday, stating that a peace agreement with Armenia is now within reach. Teams from both nations have initiated the process of demarcating the border in an effort to finally resolve long-standing territorial conflicts and put an end to years of clashes.

The four abandoned settlements, which are to be returned to Azerbaijan, were taken over by Armenian forces in the 1990s, forcing their ethnic Azerbaijani residents to flee.

But Armenian residents of nearby villages worry they will end up isolated from the rest of the country and that some houses could fall into Azerbaijani territory.

The area has strategic importance for landlocked Armenia.
