Leaders Sisi and Guterres emphasize the importance of recognizing a Palestinian State during Gaza conflict.

These operations represent a serious obstruction to the evacuation of the wounded and sick from Gaza. They also prevent the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, Fahmy added.

In a meeting on Thursday, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, highlighted the importance of supporting the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination through the recognition of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

On a recent phone call, both parties agreed that acknowledging this recognition would help halt the escalation of conflict and promote stability and harmony among the people in the area.

In a statement from Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, it was revealed that El-Sisi and the UN chief have expressed grave concerns over the devastating humanitarian impact of the Israeli military operations taking place in the Palestinian city of Rafah.

Furthermore, he went on to say that the call touched on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing Israeli war and the intense Egyptian efforts to reach a ceasefire and achieve a truce in the besieged strip.

El-Sisi and Guterres also stressed the necessity for international efforts to support the current mediation efforts to resolve this crisis and avoid further expansion of the conflict.

Moreover, both sides pointed out the importance of ensuring sustainable and unhindered entry of humanitarian and relief aid to all areas of the Gaza Strip.

They also shed light on the breakdown of the humanitarian system and the famine and epidemics that have threatened the strip for over seven months.

Therefore, El-Sisi and Guterres stressed the need to fully support the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) since it plays a pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian people.

Earlier Thursday, delegations from Hamas and Israel departed Cairo after two days of talks on the Gaza truce without reaching a deal.

The UN General Assembly is scheduled to vote Friday on an amended Arab-proposed draft resolution to grant the State of Palestine full UN membership.
